Central Sector scheme of the Ministry of Tourism (revamped from the 2014-15 Swadesh Darshan scheme) for holistic, destination-centric development of sustainable and responsible tourism destinations — covering tourism and allied infrastructure, tourism services, human-capital development, destination management and promotion, backed by policy and institutional reforms. The scheme is 100% centrally funded, providing financial assistance to State Governments/UT Administrations/Central Agencies for tourism-infrastructure development at selected destinations (57 destinations notified), with efforts to converge with other Central/State schemes and leverage CSR funding. Its sub-scheme, Challenge Based Destination Development (CBDD), selects destinations competitively across thematic categories (spiritual tourism, culture & heritage, vibrant villages, ecotourism/Amrit Dharohar).
